Developmental Screening
Developmental screening and assessment is the process of testing a child's abilities in their motor, language, social, and cognitive skills. Their development in these areas can affect how they play, learn, speak, and interact.
Screening and assessment measures a child's skills in reaching milestones in play, learning, speaking, behaving, and moving. A developmental disability is when a child is not reaching these milestones at the same time as other children their age.
Recognizing and identifying a developmental disability early is important so that the child can get the help they need to support their learning and ability to participate in social interactions.
What You Need to Know
The School District of Cudahy is dedicated to providing comprehensive support to our students with preventive and responsive interventions that support academic and social-emotional growth. Our student's families are supported through educational and consultative services in the school setting.
If a parent/guardian, child's medical provider, or social worker is concerned about a possible disability and the child resides in Cudahy and/or attends Cudahy Schools, a referral for evaluation to the school district can be requested. contact Student Services, classroom teacher, or school social worker to the begin the referral process.
The School district of Cudahy has a team of educational professionals available to provide developmental evaluations. The team may include psychologist, speech/language pathologist, occupational therapist, physical therapist, social worker, and counselor. The type of developmental screening and assessment completed is dependent on the specific concerns for that child.
