val and sal

We are thrilled to introduce two exceptional individuals from the School District of Cudahy’s graduating class of 2024, who have exemplified outstanding academic achievement and dedication throughout their high school journey - Taylor Bates, our Valedictorian, and Braden Ruiz, our Salutatorian.

Taylor and Braden both grew up in the School District of Cudahy, with Taylor having attended J.E. Jones Elementary School and Braden having been a student at General Mitchell Elementary School. Taylor fondly recalls the impact of Mrs. Plumb, whose encouragement and support ignited her passion for reading and challenged her to pursue advanced coursework. Similarly, Braden reflects on the pivotal role of his third-grade teacher, Mrs. Rosploch, whose supportive presence provided him with much-needed support and guidance during a crucial time in his life.

During their time at Cudahy Middle School, both Taylor and Braden were fortunate to have mentors who left a lasting impact. Taylor fondly remembers Mrs. Zimmerman, whose support and encouragement propelled her forward and instilled in her the belief that she was destined for greatness. Similarly, Braden reflects on the approachability and dedication of Mr. Sindic, who fostered meaningful connections with students and created a supportive learning environment.

For Taylor Bates, being named Valedictorian is not just a recognition of academic prowess, but a reflection of years of hard work and determination. Taylor's commitment to academic success is underscored by her involvement in various extracurricular activities, including Student Council, National Honor Society, and serving as the manager for the softball team. Balancing these commitments has taught Taylor the importance of effective time management and the value of utilizing every opportunity for growth and learning.

Braden Ruiz's journey to Salutatorian was shaped by his multifaceted interests in athletics, arts, and music. Despite his busy schedule, Braden's strong work ethic and dedication to his studies have propelled him to academic excellence. His involvement in activities such as track, SMART team, and the pit orchestra exemplifies his ability to excel both inside and outside the classroom.

When asked about their advice for aspiring students, both Taylor and Braden emphasized the importance of perseverance, time management, and knowing one's limits. They urged their peers to stay motivated, seek support from teachers, and maintain a healthy balance between academics, extracurricular pursuits, and time with friends and family.

Behind every salutatorian and valedictorian, are teachers who played an integral role in helping them get to this point. Taylor credits Mrs. Tanner (former Casper) who really inspired her. Mrs. Tanner has been the most positive, passionate teacher she has ever met. Taylor also credits Mr. Haeger for being there for her, and appreciates what a genuine person he is.

Braden credited Mrs. Herchenbach not only for her role as his coach over the past four years, which helped him grow as a student-athlete, but also for her consistent academic encouragement. This year, in particular, Braden highlighted her dedication to pushing him academically, recognizing his potential to surpass expectations and elevate his learning standards. Additionally, Braden acknowledged Mrs. Cutts for her support and guidance throughout his high school journey. Having had her as his teacher for all four years, Braden emphasized Mrs. Cutts' holistic approach, which extended beyond art to discussions about life goals and college aspirations. Her motivation and assistance in areas such as college essay writing and meeting deadlines in other classes were invaluable contributions to Braden's academic success.

Both Taylor and Braden attribute their success to the support and dedication of their parents, without whom they acknowledge they wouldn't be where they are today. Taylor even fondly remarks, 'My parents are my favorite people in the world,' highlighting the profound impact their support has had on her journey.

Looking ahead to their future endeavors, Taylor plans to major in Communications at Northwestern University, while Braden aims to pursue a Pre-Med track with a focus on Biology or Microbiology at UW Milwaukee. Both students are determined to utilize their academic achievements and skills to pursue their respective career aspirations and make a positive impact on the world around them.

As we prepare to bid farewell to the graduating class of 2024, we eagerly anticipate the inspiring speeches that Taylor and Braden will deliver at the commencement ceremony. Taylor aims to instill confidence and empowerment in her classmates, while Braden encourages them to seize every opportunity and pursue their dreams with dedication and determination.

We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Taylor Bates and Braden Ruiz for their exceptional achievements and contributions to our school community. Their dedication, resilience, and passion serve as shining examples for future generations of students, reminding us all of the boundless potential that lies within each of us.

Congratulations, Taylor and Braden, on this well-deserved honor!
